Our Little Finn

Everyone,

Please keep our little Finn in your prayers.  On Wednesday night he experienced two seizures - the second much worse than the first.  We rushed him to the emergency vet.

After blood tests they discovered that his glucose is very low and that he most likely has an insulinoma, a pancreatic cancer.  Given his age, we have chosen not to put him through aggressive treatment.  We have consulted with our (his) vet and the internist who specializes in these things and have agreed to treat him with steroids and food management for as long as we can keep him comfortable.  Unfortunately, his days are drawing short.

I love this picture of him - which we took last summer.  Now, writing this, I'm not sure if he'll be here for the heat this summer.  His life has had been nothing but a blessing to me and to all who know him.  He is truly just a little angel.

If you pray, please pray for him and for us as we begin our final walk together.  If you don't pray, we'd appreciate it if you'd just keep him in your thoughts.  The knowledge that I will soon lose my precious baby is overwhelming to me and I am struggling to accept it so that I can focus on caring for him in his last days.   At other times I am comforted in knowing that he has had a happy life - and that I pray that I have given him as many happinesses as he deserves.

  1. Tonya,

I am so sorry to read your news about Finn. I know how terribly upset you must be and how hard it is with the unknown ahead of you. I have been through it many times and it is not easy. There will be ups and downs and I am hoping there will be a lot of ups! I have truly missed your blog and the Beans! I will be sending lots of prayers for you and Finn and please let us know how things are going. When a pet is ill it seems to be worse for the human than the pet most of the time. We have that affliction called worry. I am hoping and praying for the best that his illness can be controlled. Veterinary medicine has come such a long way in treating our pets than it was years ago. Anyway, I know the boys won’t be spoiled at all and that they will fare much better than a lot of us poor old humans out here! So, you take care and love and prayers to you all.

PS. I have missed your blog so much. I still sometimes go back and read it, especially This Charming House and This Charming Closet! I’m still lusting for that pink chair!! And please, don’t delete it. So many people do!

  2. So very sorry to hear of Finn's failing health. Both Finn & Lola are such a fun addition to your blog. I still had your blog in my feed reader & was totally surprised to see a blog post the other day - I only wish it was for good news. Pets certainly are family & make a house a home. Losing a pet is bad enough, but knowing you will be losing a pet is a close second. I lost my 14-yo Shih-Tzu in mid-November & I still miss him so very very much.
Again, so very sorry about Finn. You certainly did right by him & gave him a wonderful life which is honorable. Otherwise, I do hope you & yours are well despite the recent bad news. Jane

  3. The news about Finn is terrible. He has brought so much joy, along with Lola, with his antics on your blog. Like the others, I return to your blog from time to time and look at some of the Weekly Bean entries. Just seeing their sweet, smiling faces always cheers me up.
Something tells me that the Divine Being is partial to Corgis, and Finn will merely transition to another wonderful home. Our prayers and thoughts are with you.
