Happy Labor Day Weekend!

The Boy and I are headed up to the mountains this weekend to commune with the family.

A little mountain air is good for the soul.

Y'all stay safe and have a wonderful long weekend.  Fall is just around the corner but the warm days are still with us.

These are sweet days.

The Weekly Bean

We snucked off to the beach for two days last week!

We were totally illegal so don't tell anybody.

The beach is over there.....

Sand is good!

All this water kept rolling up and getting our toes wet.    We weren't sure why.....

And we found lots of piles of sand (which Mama called "sand castles").  We peed on them....

"Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees on a summer's day, listening to the murmur of the water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is by no means a waste of time."

This Charming House

I am IN LOVE with the new Libations Bar Cart from my home world, Crate and Barrel.

I have no where to put it, which is an issue.  I mean it has leather wrapped handles and everything....

On Gratitude

"Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life.  It turns what we have into enough, and more.  It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity.  It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend.  Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow."

Not Enough Love in the World

My favorite Don Henley song.

And I love the video, too.

This Charming Handbag Fiend

I'm in love with the new Legacy line from Coach.

Especially this little number which I feel I must soon acquire.

Ah - leather will be my downfall.

Happy Monday

Happy Monday!!

I'm back from the beach and a little sunburned. I feel embarrassed to admit that I voluntarily got some sun last week, but I did... For the first time in 13 years.  I have sun on my face and my freckles are huge!

Now I'm back to the grind....

Happy Weekend!

Happy Friday!

We're up and enjoying our next to the last day at the beach - and although I've been happy to have it, it's really not enough.  Is it bad when one of your aspirations is to be able to enjoy two weeks in a row at the beach?  'Cause that's really what I want.

We are having coffee, toast, eggs and bacon this morning, courtesy of the Boy (who has joined us for the last couple of days).  He's good like that.  And in many other ways.

So have a great weekend.  Mine will include laundry and cleaning - but I'll worry about that on Sunday.

The Weekly Bean

This is a snoozy Bean.

And a Butterbean on the patio.....

Monday Afternoon

The Boy's at home with the Beans.....

This Charming Closet

It's a vegan leather shift dress.....

I kinda want it.

How do y'all feel about it?

Happy Monday

Oh my goodness, y'all -

I am so on vacation this week.

Stay tuned for lots of pictures of food....

Tuck Everlasting

I read Tuck Everlasting last week.

It was so sweet and so haunting.  It's a children's book so it only took about 90 minutes to read.

What would it be like to live forever?  What if you couldn't die?  Tuck and his family drink from a magic stream and find that they are stuck, frozen, unable to age and unable to die and find that their inability to participate fully in life (by dying) is a death in itself.

I highly recommend this for yourself (and if you have them, your kids).

Raising Chickens in the South

I really enjoyed the latest issue of Southern Living....

It made me want my own chicken coop!

They're so cute they almost made me forget how much work they must be!!

Plus, I think the Home Owners Association would frown on it - to say the least....

Tuesday's Girl

"I remember sitting in my ghetto, beat up Honda Prelude, and putting on that lipstick in the rear view mirror and being like 'Uh huh.  I like that.  That's the shit right there.'  I never stopped after that."
Gwen Stefani, on red lipstick.

Random Pretty Man

We have a Random Pretty Man this week!!!

I know - some of you have been clamoring....

So we have Paul Blackthorne, who used to be one of the husbands on Lipstick Jungle.  I know he's done other stuff but that's how I know him.

But that's not really important, is it?  I mean we don't want to know him - we just want to look at the handsome.

Isn't he pretty?

This Charming Closet

Every fall, I make a list of things I want to buy - usually classic pieces designed to fill holes in my closet.

I think denim may be the hardest thing for me to find.  I have the hardest time with jeans.  I also want/need the perfect little denim jacket, which so far has eluded me.

But this year I'm going to HUNT ONE DOWN.  The perfect one.

And, you know, I wouldn't mind having this Chloe bag, either.   And I'm willing to mug Rachel Bilson to get it....

Happy Monday

How was the weekend?

We laid around.  Hung with the kids.  Enjoyed the rain.  Shopped at Target.  Herded Beans.....

And I tried on rash guards at Dick's Sporting Goods.  I didn't actually buy one - they made me look like a stuffed sausage and since I was only buying one as sun protection anyway.... it wasn't such a heartbreaking situation that I didn't love them.  The Boy went with me.  He's good like that.

Oh - and we watched Mad Men.  We're about half way through Season One.  And we're pretty much obsessed.  I'm always playing catch up with these things.

This is going to be a short (in my mind) and COMPLETELY happy week.  Not because I know this, but because I want this to be so.  I'm going to will it with my mind.

My shrink used to think it was funny that I thought I could control the future with the force of my mind.   And you know that kind of awesome power weighs on a person.

Thanks for stopping by!  I think we've got a good week lined up for you on the blog.

Happy Weekend!

Hi, y'all!

Have a happy weekend.  It's been stormy and rainy here in North Carolina for the better part of two weeks.

I'm not really complaining - but I wouldn't mind a little sun this weekend.  We have a pool here.  It wouldn't break my heart if I got to go for a few hours on Sunday.

Just sayin'....

Stay cool!

And I'll see you on Monday.

"[My Guru] says that people universally tend to think that happiness is a stroke of luck, something that maybe will descend upon you like fine weather if you are fortunate enough.  But that's not how happiness works.  Happiness is the consequence of personal effort.  You fight for it, strive for it, insist upon it, and sometimes travel around the world looking for it.  You have to participate relentlessly in the manifestations of your own blessings.  And once you have achieved a state of happiness, you must never become lax about maintaining it...."

Absalom, Absalom!

I finished it!

I loved it!

It took forever (it was The Boy's fault - he distracts me).

I couldn't explain it if I had a zillion pages - other than to say it is an allegory of the South - tragic and sleepy and beautiful.  And horrible.

I worship William Faulkner.

This Charming Closet

I'm kind of in love with this jacket.

I'm starting to think of fall.....

I also totally want her hair.

Mad Men

Ok -

So The Boy and I have taken up Mad Men.  We've also subscribed to Netflix (I know - the last people in America - it's my fault, too.  I'm audio/visually deficient).

So far, we've watched the first 2 episodes of the first season.  I'm overwhelmed by the smoking.  And in love with all the furniture.

Go figure.

Ebay Sale!

So -

I'm selling a few things on eBay.

And when I say 'few', I do mean 'few'.

My old MacBook Air and 2 Kate Spades.  One of them is a Westward Adventurer Satchel.....

If you're interested, you can check it out here.

Happy Monday

Happy Monday!

We went away for the weekend.  It was divine.  We sat outside in cool mountain air, enjoyed the breeze, played with my nephews, herded corgis and watched shooting stars in the dark.....

It was just heavenly.  Or "Almost Heaven"-ly if you buy the hype....

I hope everyone had a great weekend and is geared up for the week!
