There are some books that you read that forever change you.
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy did that for me. It impressed upon me how incredibly small I was in the Universe while emphasizing that despite one's smallness, one could still have a good time.
I think everybody at West Virginia University in 1986 had read it at some point or another. It contributed to our laid back attitude, or maybe it just fed into the West Virginia Leave-Us-Be mentality. I'm not sure.
If you haven't read it, Don't Panic. But go ahead and pick it up.
